Bayer Making Science Make Sense
Program Receives Prestigious Awards
|
Bayer
Corporation has long been committed to improving
science education. In 1995, it formalized this
commitment with the Bayer Making
Science Make Sense program – an
award-winning initiative that advances science
literacy through hands-on, inquiry-based science
learning, employee volunteerism and public education.
As a science and research-based
company with major businesses in health care,
nutrition and innovative materials, Bayer Corporation
has a solid stake in helping to ensure that today's
students are well prepared for tomorrow's workplace,
regardless of the careers they choose.

Bayer's commitment
stems from the fact that new technologies and concepts
and increasing global market competition will continue
to demand a workforce that is flexible, scientifically
literate and equipped with the critical thinking, problem
solving and team working skills fostered by a quality
science education.
The program has received many national
and regional awards for excellence in communications
and community relations including the Council for Aid
to Education Leaders for Change Award as well as the
Silver Anvil from the Public Relations Society of America,
the public relations industry's most prestigious award.
The Bayer Corporation also recently received the Ron
Brown Award for Corporate Leadership for the Making
Science Make Sense® program. The Ron Brown Award
for Corporate Leadership recognizes the country's outstanding
corporate citizens. It is the only presidential award
to honor companies for the exemplary quality of their
relationships with employees and communities.
Through the KansasBio Organization,
the Bayer Making Science Make Sense® program is
being expanded throughout Kansas. Many KSU Research
and Extension volunteers are being trained to carry
the program to sites in southeast Kansas this year,
with plans to further extend the program’s reach.
