"Come Home to Kansas" Initiative Launched

KansasBio is a proud partner in the recently launched “Come Home to Kansas” initiative, which was revealed at a press conference on January 24, 2008 at the KTEC PIPELINE ’s "Innovator of the Year" awards dinner.  The “Come Home to Kansas” initiative focuses on recruiting bioscience and information technology professionals and investors to Kansas – more specifically, those professionals, graduates and investors with former residential ties to the state as well as non-residents who have never lived in Kansas but are looking for “home.”  This initiative is a direct result of KansasBio members input. In 2006 KansasBio formed a Workforce Development and Intellectual Communications Task Force to collect pressing needs within the bioscience industry. Talent recruitment was identified as a top priority. The “Come Home to Kansas” project features talent recruitment tools -- for both job seekers and companies. It leverages state of the art internet technology to automatically pull in job postings from our industry members’ websites all across Kansas and the KC metro area. We would like to thank Flax Biotech, Nanoscale Corporation, Bayer CropScience, Bayer Animal Health, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and SAFC Bioscience for their contributions of time and input to this taskforce. Other “Come Home to Kansas” partners are the KTEC PIPELINE, the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Bioscience Authority.

The core of the “Come Home to Kansas” initiative is a one-stop Web site (www.comehometokansas.com), refreshed daily, that aggregates the thousands of current technical job openings in the state.  The site also includes business leader and entrepreneur video testimonials, cost of living data, and details about Kansas’ strong network of tech-based economic development resources for entrepreneurs and investors.

Program partners will fund in-state and out-of-state advertisements featuring successful entrepreneurs and returning professionals in alumni association publications and selected newspapers over the next year. The advertisements emphasize that Kansas is a place to prosper with its low cost of living and its high quality of life and are aimed at professionals looking for a welcoming, lower-stressed environment for their families.

We know that talent recruitment is one of the core issues of concern among our industry members.  We encourage all of our members to utilize the “Come Home to Kansas” website for locating qualified information technology and bioscience candidates to meet your workforce needs.
