WHY I'M GOING TO BIO 2006!
Jeff Southard, VasoGenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Founder, Vice President, Drug Development
"Attending a BIO event is important for my company because it gives us the chance to build relationships with the investment community and Big Pharma one on one. We also benefit by meeting other biotechs who maybe in similar situations financially or developmentally and find out what is working and what is not, as well as keeping an eye on our competitors."
Rudy Beese, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal Partner
"As a Sonnenschein Partner, I am looking
forward to renewing valued friendships and working with colleagues in the Kansas Pavilion to promote our life science businesses and to develop opportunities that will further the interests of our biosciences' companies. I'm excited to also bring our firm's global venture technology perspectives to BIO 2006, and hope we will have opportunities to assist the State in developing new ways to capitalize on
the Bioscience Initiative that differentiates Kansas
so well from other parts of the country."

BIOFUEL BREEDS NEW NICHE
February 23, 2006 - Springfield News-Leader by Garance Burke, AP Writer
On early mornings at East Kansas Agri-Energy, trucks pack the driveway loop to unload bushels of dry, yellow corn into a hopper. By nighttime, those kernels are ready to transform — they'll turn into fuel.
"That's the sound of money," said ethanol marketer Steve Rust, against the roaring sound of crushed corn passing through the colored pipes overhead.
Rust, who works for Colwich, Kan. - based ICM Inc., the nation's largest builder of ethanol plants, says the factory sends streams of patrons to Garnett's tiny supermarket and keeps Kansas farmers in business.

SCIENCE EFFORTS SPARK INTEREST
February 19, 2006 - Hutchinson News by Chris Green, Harris News Service
Kim Barnes talks about pioneer spirit in the same breath as his mention of efforts to bolster life science research and industry in the state.
And he isn't from Kansas City - the frontier where state officials want to center a bioscience research corridor.
Barnes, an internal auditor for the Pawnee County Co-op in Larned, said more sparsely populated regions of the state could play a part in the push to make Kansas a cutting-edge hub for plant, animal and human sciences.
