The past two years, both in Chicago and Boston, Kansas garnered significant attention at the BIO International Convention – bolstering the image of Kansas as a bioscience leader and a “go to” place for bioscience companies, strategic partners for Kansas companies and investors looking for dedication and opportunity to grow the biosciences.

Our targeted strategy for Kansas’ presence at BIO 2008 will be to continue to drive home the message about our strength areas by engaging scientists and business leaders in our key sub-sectors; begin attracting new talent to the state and region through targeted outreach to alumni, scientists and industry professionals in these key sub-sector areas; and update our scorecard with recent statistics and relevant information to reflect the momentum of the bioscience industry growth through state investment by KBA and KTEC, private sector growth and industrial expansion, as well as commercialization and venture capital readiness.

Each of our partners from last year has indicated they are fully committed and excited to be part of a "return" trip to BIO. We couldn’t be more pleased with our statewide support.

We’ve had a tailgate party in the middle of the convention floor with legendary football player Gale Sayers. We’ve sailed the Boston Harbor. Now we are about to do it again!

KansasBio is hosting a reception at Kansas City Barbeque in San Diego on Wednesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m.

That’s right – there’s a little piece of Kansas right in the heart of San Diego! Kansas City Barbeque is owned and operated by Kansans and has been a popular downtown destination for more than 20 years.

Oh….and did we mention that not only is Kansas City Barbeque known for its great food filled with memorabilia from Kansas and our local universities, it also was the setting for two bar scenes in the hit movie Top Gun!

The reception will feature our universities and the Come Home to Kansas initiative. Mark your calendars now - this is going to be one reception where you’ll fee right at home!

More exciting details to come soon…

KansasBio has formed its Steering Committee for BIO 2008 in San Diego. Comprised of top tier sponsors, the Steering Committee’s primary role is to encourage, guide and provide leadership regarding Kansas’ presence at BIO 2008.

The Steering Committee meets regularly to discuss Kansas’ overall messaging and theme, the Kansas pavilion layout and orientation, sponsor recruitment, collaterals and special events.

Steering Committee members include: Michael Beckloff, KansasBio Chair; Tom Thornton, Kansas Bioscience Authority; Tracy Taylor, Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation; Wayne Carter, Hill's Pet Nutrition; Greg Krissek, ICM, Inc.; and Bob Walker, Bayer Animal Health.

KansasBio has partnered with Allen Press, a Lawrence Kansas owned publishing company to produce the 2008 Kansas Bioscience Magazine.

The magazine caters to the interests, concerns and issues of the bioscience industry in Kansas. The magazine has a stellar reputation for delivering cutting–edge information, insights and information regarding key topics related to the biosciences in Kansas.

The upcoming issue of the magazine will correspond with BIO 2008 and feature Kansas' collaboration in the biosciences, "Come Home to Kansas" and the four bioscience sectors in Kansas.

The magazine will be distributed to BIO 2008 attendees and mailed statewide to more than 5,000 recipients. There is limited space to place your message or ad in the magazine.

If you're interested in purchasing an advertisement in the upcoming magazine, please contact Kelly Pearl or Jennifer Brandt at info@kansasbio.org.

One of the most important functions of exhibiting at BIO 2008 is the opportunity to communicate Kansas’ message to attendees. We need a combination of industry experts, university leaders, public officials and economic development representatives to greet attendees and tell our story that Kansas is a bioscience leader and a “go to” place for bioscience companies, strategic partners for Kansas companies and investors looking for dedication and opportunity to grow the biosciences.

KansasBio has negotiated a rate of $125 for an Exhibit Hall Pass, that's more than 50% off the normal cost. This discount is only good if you register with KansasBio.

Anyone who volunteers to work at the Kansas Pavilion for six or more hours throughout the convention will receive a complimentary exhibit hall pass!

CLICK HERE to register with the Kansas Pavilion.

Once your requests have been submitted, KansasBio will contact each person individually to discuss availability to work on the show floor at the Kansas Pavilion.

Please Note: This registration category allows access to exhibition hall only. This pass does NOT include access to the breakfast or lunch plenary sessions or evening receptions. Kansas Legislators and Public Officials will receive an unlimited, full-conference registration pass.
