Welcome to the first issue of BIObuzz 2008! During the last two years, Kansas placed an emphasis on expanding awareness of our bioscience industry. Specifically, we have dramatically increased our presence at the international BIO conventions in Chicago and Boston.

KansasBio is honored to be involved in three primary roles: coordinating the “Kansas presence” for the international convention; facilitating the formation of a delegation of stakeholders, sponsors and partners to make our collective investment of time and financial resources a success; and engaging a steering committee to develop cohesive strategic, marketing, and messaging plans to utilize prior to, during and following the convention.

The past two years, both in Chicago and Boston, Kansas garnered significant attention at this competitive event – bolstering the image of Kansas as a bioscience leader and a “go to” place for bioscience companies, strategic partners for Kansas companies and investors looking for dedication and opportunity to grow the biosciences.

As we look on the horizon to BIO 2008 in San Diego, our targeted strategy for Kansas’ presence at international convention will be:

  1. Continue to drive home the message about our strength areas by engaging scientists and business leaders in our key sub-sectors.
  2. Begin attracting new talent to the state and region through targeted outreach to alumni, scientists and industry professionals in these key sub-sector areas.
  3. Update our scorecard with recent statistics and relevant information to reflect the momentum of the bioscience industry growth through state investment by KBA and KTEC, private sector growth and industrial expansion, as well as commercialization and venture capital readiness.

We look forward to your support on this "top-flight" event!

Angela Kreps
KansasBio President
